new backyard

i've been living at the new house since aug 07 and the backyard has been full of dirt ever since. mom and i went to star nursery with the landscapers on friday to pick out some trees and plants for the backyard. we got three fruit trees: apricot, plum, and peach. i also had the landscapers dig up the tree that was facing the front door and replaced it with some smaller bushes. i wonder how many years will i have to wait until i get to eat some of the fruits on the trees. with all the noise the landscapers were making, my neighbor next door came to see what was going on and i finally got to meet her for the first time. she's getting her backyard done today, with my landscapers. i saw that she got a peach tree too. here are the before and after pictures. click here if you like to see more.

happiest place on earth

last saturday, i got lucky to score a free park hopper's pass to disneyland and ca adventure park, compliments of ken and his friend. we even got 15 disney dollars each to spend in the park. this was my first trip ever to the ca adventure park. i was really excited to see the park, but unfortunately, i was too chicken to go on any of the rides. i had a great meal though. ken was such a great planner. he made reservations for the blue bayou and it was the first time we all got to try the restaurant. i had beef short ribs and the meal was excellent. thanks ken! here's a picture of me and shan from the new buzz lightyear astro blaster interactive experience from disneyland. btw, that is not my score, i did much better than that!

命中注定我愛你~fated to love you?

when you think of taiwan drama, you think of teenage kids with acting talent not any better than keanu reeves.  last weekend, my eyes were glued to the computer screen.   the story line was hilarious and i was addicted!  this soap came highly recommended and i was laughing and bawling (not at the same time) as i spent nights without sleep watching continuously for 48 hours.  the soap's got english subtitles so if you find yourself stuck at an airport one day and wireless is available, this should help you make the time go by faster.

opa!

this semester, i am taking a cultural and cuisine class. one of our very important assisgnments is to try out new restaurants and write a review about the experience. last night, i went to opa, a greek restaurant here in las vegas. i ordered a traditional dish called moussaka. moussaka is a baked dish made of layers of ground lamb and sliced eggplants. it kind of reminds me of a lasagna. the best part of my dinner was dessert. i had baklava! here is a picture of my meal and more restaurant reviews to follow!

Nevada DMV Clerk Arrested in Federal ID Theft Case
Updated: Sep 5, 2008 01:23 PM
The top federal prosecutor in Nevada says a state Department of Motor Vehicles clerk is facing federal bribery and false statement charges after her arrest in Las Vegas.

U.S. Attorney Greg Brower says 52-year-old Marilyn D. Millender of North Las Vegas was arrested Friday on federal charges that could get her 15 years in prison and a $500,000 fine if convicted.

Millender was scheduled for arraignment Friday afternoon on charges contained in a grand jury indictment handed up Wednesday.

Brower says Millender was a front-line clerk at a Nevada DMV office on North Decatur Boulevard in Las Vegas.

She is accused of taking cash payments of $5,000 or more in exchange for issuing state identification documents between June and December 2007, and of lying to the FBI during interviews last May and June.
