25 years

i found this boarding pass when mom & dad cleaned out the monterey park apartments a few years ago. i guess japan asia airways doesn't exist anymore. this was the boarding pass from the first time i flew on an airplane. little did i know, our family of six was immigrating to the united states. i thought we were just going to disneyland to see snow white! i still remember the 12 identical luggage bags we brought and the airplane ride to LAX. on the plane, a nice man gave me my first box of m&m chocolate. i forgot that we had a layover in japan until i saw this boarding pass. it's been 25 years since we've been here and i'm glad my parents made the decision to bring us here. in the beginning, i wanted to go back to taiwan and was crying when i was forced to go to school. now, i can't imagine what my life would be like if i stayed in taiwan. i'm happy to be here.

shopping at cabazon

summer session is finally over! i'm taking this week off from work to relax before fall semester starts. yesterday, i went to cabazon with shan and ken. shan and i went shopping while ken went next door to morongo. parking at cabazon was awful as usual. we finally started shopping and shan wanted to see some dresses at bcbg. i found this really cute dress and decided to try it on. as i tried to zip up the dress from the back, it got stuck and would not zip or unzip! i asked shan to come in to the dressing room to see what's going on and she said the zipper was stuck to the cloth so she tried to unzip me, but the zipper would not budge. i was wishing that ken was there with his pocket knife. we were so ready to cut that dress apart. i was getting really nervous as i tried to squeeze out of the dress. i swear the dress was my size and it was not too small for me. after struggling for about ten minutes in the dressing room, shan finally helped me got out of the dress by pulling it over my head. i didn't even try anything else on because we got out of the store as soon as we can. needless to say, we won't be going back to bcbg for a while.  good thing i had better luck when i got to the gucci store.  i ended up with a new bag from gucci.

i got to see pearl at the mccaren airport this week. i'm so glad her original flight got cancelled or else, she wouldn't have a layover in vegas. sorry pea, but i wish you had better luck with airlines. somehow, we got into a conversation about what word we would use for each letter of the alphabet. she asked me what word would i use for 'P' so i searched the internet and found this list. i thought 'G' was 'G' as in girl. i think joy will like 'J.' the last time i had a conversation about words with pearl was the difference between farther and further. i never know which one to use. pearl loves to give me white hair.

shao mei (燒賣) anyone?

i love watching cooking shows on the food network. i saw this recipe on semi-homemade cooking with sandra lee and it looked simple enough to make. these steamed dumplings are just like shao meis made with wonton skin. now i just have to find the right sauce to go with these.
